This reporter went to see the movie “Haywire” and was, like most, a little go girl! For the actress Gina Carano and her skills as the character Mallory, the freelance CIA trained women, as the chick who can dish it out. Antonio Banderas plays a bad guy and it seems as if he might not get away. Rodrigo, Bandaras, is a the man with a plan to burn Mallory. Granted, this is a low budget film and one of the first films for a certain company, so don’t be too harsh on the movie. With it being all about Mallory getting back at the people who betrayed her, the main thing is to kill them all. The movie might not be a chick flick, but guys should steer clear because the movie seems to have you by the proverbial (you know what I mean). The plus about this movie is that mothers could show their daughters that girls can be just as tough as the boys.

British alternative rock band Coldplay once again shows brilliance through their music in their fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto. Formed in 1996, Coldplay quickly became one of the world’s top selling artists, selling millions of records worldwide. The group is comprised of singer Chris Martin, percussionist Will Champion, bass guitarist Guy Berriman, and guitarist Jonny Buckland. Coldplay first gained major popularity with their single “Yellow” in 2000. Since then, the rock band has released five studio albums: Parachutes in 2001, A Rush of Blood to the Head in 2002, X&Y in 2005, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends in 2008, and their most recent release, Mylo Xyloto. Because of their success, Coldplay has received over 40 music awards and over 100 nominations.

Since their last album release, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, in 2008, Coldplay has come out with a new style in their music unlike anything they have done before. Since its release in October, the Mylo Xyloto has already sold many copies worldwide and topped charts everywhere. In this album, Coldplay experiments making music with synthesizers and a different style to appeal to a variety of people. Containing elements of genres such as pop, Mylo Xyloto is different than Coldplay’s past releases and is definitely unique.

The album begins with a 42 second introduction titled “Mylo Xyloto”, composed of many sounds including stringed instruments and bells. The short introduction leads into the next song, “Hurts Like Heaven,” a fun, upbeat song with explosions of synths and guitar solos. “Hurts Like Heaven” is a great track to begin Coldplay’s album, giving fans an idea of what their experimental album may sound like.

“Paradise” is the third track of the album and is also the second released single from the album. “Paradise” is a captivating song made up of strings, piano, guitar, and Chris Martin’s calm vocals accompanied by a booming bass, drum beats, and synth effects that sounds similar to pop mainstream music.

The album’s third released single and the fourth track, “Charlie Brown,” returns the music to an upbeat pace with catchy guitar riffs and the pop-rock feel of Coldplay.

“Major Minus”, played with guitars and serious vocals, is a notable song that stands out from the rest of the album, due to its serious and dark tone. It is certainly an interesting change in style and is a great addition to the album.

Influenced by the pop, electronic, and R&B genres, the song “Princess of China” also stands out. One factor that distinguishes this song from the rest is the vocals of Barbadian recording artist Rihanna. “Princess of China” features a wide variety of sounds including a large amount of synthesizers and the amazing vocals of Rihanna and Chris Martin. This song presents the idea that artist from two different genres can join together and can also create a great song.

Overall, Mylo Xyloto is an great album with many notable tracks from Coldplay with a new interesting style.

Off the bat, this movie was way better than its predecessors. Although Kristen Stewart’s acting was lacking in many departments, the plot line of the movie went smoothly. The movie started with wedding preparations for Bella and Edward. Jacob is still in love with Bella but he comes to the wedding to visit her “one last time”. The audience seems to be hearing this line alot. During the lovebirds’ honeymoon, something tragically magnificent happens- depending on your view of the situation. The movie stayed close to the book this time around. There were a few minor changes in scenes but (if you’ve stalked the book and everything ‘Twilight’) lines from the book were definitely pulled into the movie. At the end, the action comes fast and there is a sense of urgency for both the Cullens and the Pack. It ended where Bella… well you’ll just have to watch the movie to find out where this part of the story ends. And as always, if you have loved Twilight at any point in your life, you need to watch this movie. For old times sake at least.

When a British exchange student (Felicity Jones) overstays her visa, complication arises between an American student (Anton Yelchin) and the Britain whom which fall in love with each other “Like Crazy”. Sundance award winning film, directed by Drake Doremus, is an independent production, well deserving of its Grand Jury Prize for best picture in the dramatic movie category. This romantic drama illustrates the hardships of a troubled couple dealing with the separation of an international relationship. Expressed through the use of bold camera shots and melancholy piano choruses, it makes other romantic movies look obvious and clichéd. Through its sophistication and originality a complex scheme is formed, much like a math equation with many factors and variables, that continually builds tension only to be concluded in a subtle, yet just, ending resultant of both a physical and emotional journey.

After a college romance is split across two continents, the couple becomes estranged and is faced with the temptations of an offset relationship. The two must seek out “patience” in order to maintain their love for each other. This film may remind us that despite the dismal curves life throws at us, there is always hope to be found for those who wait.

Major contributing factors to the film’s award at the 27th Sundance Film Festival include technical brilliance of cinematographer John Guleserian and the splendid performance provided by composer/pianist Dustin O’Halloran. Not to mention leading actress Felicity Jones for her Special Jury Prize award winning performance. This Production will surely excite you with wonder and awe upon reveling its riveting tale. Though it may be a bit mature for most, it is recommended for sophisticated movie goers who might enjoy a good romance from a new perspective.

How many times does a 14 year old musician, introduced just recently, have one of their songs #1 in the country for four straight weeks? Greyson Chance achieved this by being the first artist to be signed on Ellen Degeneres’s new label, Eleveneleven. One of Greyson’s relatives posted a video on YouTube of the popular artist singing Paparazzi for a choir event in Edmond, Oklahoma. The video flew to the third most popular video in 2010. There are over 40 million views of this performance. Greyson’s popularity was soon discovered on Ellen and thus was signed to Eleveneleven. Being on Eleveneleven did not give him talent; it just gave him the opportunity to share his wonderful abilities with the world.

Hold On ‘Til The Night, Greyson’s recent album, features a wide variety of songs from slow teenage love to fast tempoed joyful songs. Waiting Outside the Lines is an incredibly powerful song that really got me thinking. The lyrics in this song are in no way meaningless. There is definitely heart in the structure of this song. Unfriend You in some ways is a sad song, but you get caught up in the awesome violin work in the background that you forget about the melancholy lyrics. Home is in Your Eyes is another emotionally strong song. The vocals in the song really help show off Greyson’s talent. Hold on ’til the Night is one of those songs you want to hear over and over again. I fell hard for this song because it expresses such deep lyrics and wonderful instrumentals. Heart like Stone overall is a good song, but I don’t believe it is as strong as all the other songs. After hearing Hold on ’til the Night then listening to Heart like Stone, it did not quite reach the bar that Hold on ’til the Night set. Little London Girl is a very lovable song because of its upbeat happy tune, but why a London girl? What’s wrong with Americans? Cheyenne is another one of my favorite songs because of the fact that I finally found a song with a strong bass line. The lyrics again were straight from the artist’s soul. Summertrain is a very interesting and unique song. At first impression, I felt it was a little weird, but I soon realized this was only because it was different from any song I have heard. This weirdness of the song changed very soon. I now love the song. (Change is usually a good thing!) Stranded is another favorite on this album. It automatically put me in a happy mood after listening to a sadder song. Take a Look at Me Now blew me away right away! I adored the awesome instrument blend. This song got an 11 out of 10 for me.

This album is definitely something to put on your Christmas list!

J. Edgar Hoover, the movie of history, a love that is requited ,but not for the time period, the bending of the rules and even a bomb in the first 5 minutes, is a movie you must go see and here’s why. The best of Hoover is that there is a juicy secret you will never believe. J Edgar Hoover, played byLeonardo DiCaprio, and ClydeTolson, played by Armie Hammer, the very dear friend of Hoover. Hoover’s personal secretary, Helen Gandy, is played by Naomi Wats. The mother of Hoover is played by the lovely Judi Dench. Additionally, Jeffery Donovan plays Robert Kennedy. The movie is just twisted. The sad part is it’s true. What you really think of those politicians, meaning those dirty little secret files Hoover had on everyone on Capitol Hill, were true. This twisting of rules is what J. Edgar Hoover was known for. J. Edgar is an amazing film if you like conspiracies, requited love that is not socially acceptable, history, Leonardo DiCaprio, Naomi Watts, or even Jefferey Donovan.

Your kind-hearted part of you is out right now. Try to make someone’s life a little sweeter. Maybe someone you don’t know will never see it coming, or maybe a close friend is expecting it.

Pisces (2/19-3/20)

Someone is being unclear with you and probably needs help. You can handle the problem your friend has. They are probably counting on you, so make sure you are there for them.

Aries (3/21-4/19)

Your inner explorer is calling the wild, so go out and make new discoveries. You may even come across some new friends during your adventure.

Taurus (4/20-5/20)

Taking time on the decisions you make is really important, especially when it involves something about someone close to you. Don’t rush things, because it can ruin things for you.

Gemini (5/21-6/20)

Someone you don’t know very well should play an important role in your morning or afternoon. Learning more about them will be good for you two.

Cancer (6/21-7/22)

Stress is not really good for you, so try to relax for a while. Maybe read books to keep you relaxed or do something that you enjoy doing a lot.

Leo (7/23-8/22)

Audience will be attentive to you today. Be yourself and project your voice to your eager listeners. Be open to questions and comments by others because their participation is vital to your performance.

Virgo (8/23-9/22)

You have high spirits even if problems and obstacles are in your way. Although, these obstacles you have are challenges that you can overcome.

Libra (9/23-10/22)

Calls are coming your way. Some involve people who are far away from you. Some calls may be from friends asking you for some help. So get your voice ready!

Scorpio (10/23-11/21)

Worrying about things that are small is not necessary right now. A friend with a bigger problem needs more attention from someone who cares. Go and help the person who really needs advice.

Sagittarius (11/22-12/21)

It seem like you have a lot of work to finish this week. Cramming things ‘til the end is not really best for you right now. It may cause you problems in the future.

Capricorn (12/22-1/19)

Dealing with your relatives right now is important to you. Try to remember your past relatives and realize what they have done for your family.

My first thought when listening to Scotty McCreery’s album Clear as Day? “This can’t be the album!”
But don’t let McCreery’s boyish looks get in the way of his DEEP MANLY voice. He
sounds as if he has been singing country for his entire life, which he almost
has. Scotty McCreery has been singing since he was only 3 years old! His rich baritone
voice opened many opportunities for his career, which includes winning Season
10 of American Idol. McCreery’s
remake of I Love You This Big, was
simply amazing. Though I haven’t heard the original, I have the feeling I won’t
need to since Scotty’s version already sounds so complete. All of the songs on
the album seem to be from happy memories of different kinds of love with a playful-swaying
feel. Out of all of the songs on the album, track four, or The Trouble with Girls, truly made me feel sorry for the heartbreak
that Scotty must have experienced. This slow paced song opened with a marvelous
piano solo, and Scotty’s voice is perfect with the melancholy tone he portrays
in the song. “They’re sugar and spice and angel wings… They’re hard to find yet
there are so many of them. The way that you hate that you already love em’…The
trouble with girls is nobody loves trouble as much as me.” McCreery gives the
impression that girls have a sort of superpower that causes men to fall in love
with them. Which I can assure you, is not true. But McCreery must have
certainly been enchanted into love by a girl whose features got to him. In all,
Scotty’s album Clear as Day had an
upbeat and positive sound, which we all need now and again. It’s certain to say
that Scotty McCreery will have even more future success in country and in
singing in general. His voice will surely be enjoyable to future and present
generations of Country-Lovers. If you are a Country-Lover, you should definitely
listen to this album!
