Wouldn't this case of "effect vs. affect" be "effect"?
"'Thank You for Flushing My Head in the Toilet and Other Rarely Used Expressions' by Jonathan Dorf is a powerful play about bullying and its affects"
Just a grammar freak looking out.

I agree with Daria. They are effective, but how can a student be held accountable for not being able to get a ride to school? Another thing. Tardy sweeps are effective and have a positive effect, but only to an extent. If a student is 5 seconds late to class, they receive detention, right? But it takes time for the student to be processed through the office or student services or wherever they go (I haven't been swept before). Which is worse? Being 5 seconds late to a class once or twice a week? Or being 30 minutes late to a class, having to stay after school, meaning less time for homework to be completed, etc. These tardy sweeps also cause a panic, literally. I hear the 30 second bell and everyone turns into mustangs and start stampeding around the campus. I have seen several students being tripped and falling just because of a bell. Obviously, tardy sweeps have a positive effect at face value in that they do encourage students to get to class faster. But students that do get caught in them get stuck in a vicious cycle. Most of the students that are being swept are at risk as it is, so how will keeping them from class for 30 minutes help? They miss 30 minutes of curriculum that they can't get back, and the rest of the period is just building off of the first lesson anyway. So they might as well just completely skip first period if they're 5 seconds late anyway. I know that tardy sweeps have to be done every once in a while because of obvious reasons; the students must have motivation to get to class. But every day, every period? It gets out of hand. ANYONE can get swept, especially students who have to walk literally across the school from the library to the portables. If one thing goes wrong, then their day is ruined. But isn't it the repeat offenders that we're after? If they're tardy so often, won't just one sweep a week be enough to teach them a lesson, so the students who are usually on time aren't put at a disadvantage? Everyone is tardy once in a while, but things happen. There's no reason to have a sweep every period of every day.
