Yolanda Knighton, Jasmine Ortega, and Cindy Lo are all graduating seniors on Varsity Women’s Basketball this year. Before the game started, the rest of the Varsity Women’s Basketball team took the liberty of acknowledging these seniors. Summayah Wiggins, Phoneshia Schuhmeier, and Neha Kapoor all shared a touching speech about Yolanda and her importance of being on the team. They held back tears as they explained how they were going to miss Yolanda and her leadership skills. Julienne Sidqe, Mari Osumah and Brianna James shared a wonderful speech about Jasmine. Julienne also shared how it was going to be hard to see Jasmine go after playing with her since 8th grade. Rona Mercado, Vanessa Rubi, Karissa Rubi and Simer Kaur shared a memorable speech about Cindy Lo. Rona made a poem expressing how Cindy’s game and attitude had a positive effect on the game and how she is a good person, both on and off the court.
The starting lineup for the game against Florin consisted of Allyson Japlit, Rona Mercado, Yolanda Knighton, Jasmine Ortega, and Cindy Lo. The Lady Mustangs were down at half time, but came back strong in the second half, only down by ten. Cindy led the team with eleven points, with Jasmine following by ten shots. Yolanda had eight points, followed by Karissa who had seven points, while Vanessa had three points and Neha had two. Julienne had one assist, one steal and three blocks, Neha had two steals, and Yolanda had one block and 2 steals. Unfortunately, Folsom shot down some three’s which handed the Lady Mustangs another loss (43 to 56).The Lady Mustangs have two more games left – they play at Sheldon this Friday and play at Florin next week on Tuesday. Come out and support your Lady Mustangs!
