Enthusiasm filled the bleachers of Monterey Trail’s gym as the first game of the women’s volleyball program’s preseason game began against Rosemont. The JV team beat the Wolverines 2-0 in their first match. Although it was mainly a serving game, our JV Mustangs got right back up and kept trying hard and working as a team as the scoreboard took flight. Despite the fact that it wasn’t such an exciting game, it was a considerable way to start off. In our varsity match, as the first ball was about to be served, fans filled into the gym once again to support their Lady Mustangs against Rosemont’s Wolverines. The first game started off well, but then the starting six began to get balls stuck at the net. Recalculating their decisions and actions, there were great and hard hits by Christen Williams, Stevie Mobley, Diamonte Harper, and Erika Clay. As the points were swaying in our direction, we lost a few blocks but had great recovery by Linda Tran and assists by Hualalai Doroen. With the help of the cheering fans rooting for their home team for victory, the Lady Mustangs won this match 3-0. Even if it wasn’t such a tough game, it was the right way to start off for our women’s volleyball teams.
Be sure to visit the women’s volleyball website and check out the calendar for upcoming games to root on our fellow athletes. Tickets for home games are: $5 for adults and students without IDs, $3 for children, seniors, and students with ID, and free for ASB cards. So come on and show your Lady Mustangs some spirit and support!
