Jessica Stolzman: Co-Editor-in-Chief
It is extremely exhilarating to be a part of the very first staff of Voices from the Trail, the online publication of Monterey Trail High School. I myself have found the transition from paper to print to be a difficult one: there are substantial differences between writing for print and writing for the web, and I have come to find that my voice online is much different from the one in print. Nevertheless, I find that writing for our publication is a worthwhile and rewarding experience.
My name is Jessica Stolzman, and I am currently a Junior at Monterey Trail High School. I am a member of the Academic Decathlon team, I am the Publicist for the ASB Council, and I am a new member of the National Honors Society and Key Club. I play soccer for the school, as well as an outside league, and I have been a Girl Scout 11 years now. In my spare time (of which I seem to find very little), I enjoy writing, reading, catching up on all the TV shows that I miss during the week, and spending time with my friends.
I plan to go to college on the east coast, preferably somewhere in New York City, where I hope to study in the field of journalism, global communications, publications, or simply English. Right now, it is my ambition to become either a journalist, news anchor, or editor, and thus I was inspired to join the Literary Publications team at my high school.
It is my responsibility to help organize the club – I review all articles, assign deadlines, help manage the website, suggest story ideas, work to bring in advertisers, and assist in lifting this publication off the ground to its prominent position today.
I hope to some day be able to look back at this website, hopefully a staple in the life of every student at Monterey Trail High School and the surrounding community, and say that I helped design it. I look forward to seeing just how much awareness this publication will bring to our school.
Jesse Iloreta: Co-Editor-in-Chief
I’m Jesse Iloreta, Senior, Co-Editor-in-Chief for Monterey Trail’s online news publication, Voices from the Trail. I’ve been involved in Monterey Trail’s news publication for two years. I also work for KCRA 3, a local news station, as a high school playbook sports reporter. My job at KCRA 3 is to film, edit, and report on Monterey Trail’s sports. During my free time I love to read Sports Illustrated, watch Sports Center, and spend time with my friends. Along with the other Co-Editor, Jessica Stolzman, Voices from the Trail Section Editors, and staff, we hope to make our online publication a success on campus and around the area.
Rebeka Verma: Editor of News Section
Hello people. My name is Rebeka Verma, and I more or less suck at “About Me”’s. But basically, I am a Junior (though I can easily pass as a Freshman), and I am the News Editor for Literary Publications’ Voices from the Trail. I have always found writing interesting, especially poems because they too have become an addiction alongside music and Starbucks. I am that shy girl in class that will never talk. You just have to get it out of me. And trust me, it’s not that hard to get me to smile. I’m pretty easy to talk to, and I promise I’ll be nice. Make me smile, you got yourself a new friend.
Vik Lal: Editor of Arts and Entertainment Section
My name is Vikash Kishan Lal, but really, call me Vik. My job is to be the Editor of Arts and Entertainment section of Voices from the Trail.
Who am I? Oh geez, well I’m a Junior at MTHS. Some might describe me as animated, funny, really out there, and quirky . I defiantly walk to the beat of my own drum, not really one to roll with what the crowd . Music is a serious addiction; I listen to everything. I really do mean it when I say it, From Gene Aurtry to 2-pac to Annotations of Autopsy and everything in between, though most of the time I’m listening to metal or some variant of rock (That’s sort of why I got editor of arts and entertainment). I’m always down to listen to something new, so if you’ve got it, I want it. I’d way rather support underground and indie artist than a mainstream artist.
I do this because I love to write and be connected with our school campus. I also do it to keep my readers informed and amused. Now, I don’t have all that much school spirit, but I definitely have a lot of pride in our students because we’re all pretty rad in our own way.
My goals for the publication aren’t crazy, or out of reach; I want our publication to fit the student body and keep it from being dry and lame. I’d like it to be something you go to for fun or in your spare time while you’re on Myspace or screwing around on the internet. This should be by the students, for the students. Currently, I know the Arts and Entertainment area is really bare, but give me a few weeks and I promise it’ll be a lot better.
Kyron Richard: Editor of Creative Corner Section
My name is Kyron Richard. I’m a sophomore at MTHS, I am the Section Editor for the Creative Corner, and I like to write. I’ve always loved writing stories and poems and I think creativity is the way humans express themselves and that should be embraced, especially when teenagers do it. I’d like to have a huge following of Voices from the Trail at MTHS, and to inspire other schools in our district to establish their own online publications.
Walter Prado: Webmaster/Graphic Designer
My name is Walter Prado and I am a Junior here at MTHS. I decided to join our new online publication, Voices from the Trail, because I want to inform other people about upcoming and past events. I really like to write, especially for the arts and entertainment section, so I figured, why not share it with everyone else besides myself? I certainly hope this publication continues to grow even after I graduate. I also hope that it becomes more than just a place to get the latest news; I want to hear what others think about specific topics and issues and be able to express their thoughts. I trust that this new publication will be a way for students to be aware of issues that are going on around them.
Martha Her: Resources Manager
It is a great opportunity for me to be part of this Online Publication and to be able to help and be one of the staff writers. As long as this online publication has been existing, I have had the great chance of helping many of our students on this campus of Monterey Trail with the many resources that I’ve come to know. If many of you don’t know me, my name is Martha Her, and I am a current Junior attending Monterey Trail High School with a passion for writing and helping. I love to help out and give a hand to kids, teens, and adults. If you ever see me around school, I am pretty laidback and I can be found just chilling or trying to talk to new people I don’t really know. At around the beginning of my high school year, I’ve developed a love for writing just about anything, and I just love to expand on my imagination. Coming to love the art of English and its great impact has allowed me to write just about anything. For this online publication, I really hope to see many of our school’s hidden writers develop and share their artworks through this page. I also hope to help many of those in need of resources, who are trying to find links to possible jobs or just particular resources you might need for school-related. Come check out the resource page and I hope you find what it is you’re looking for. Have an awesome time on here!
Amita Chand: Photographer/Videographer
Hey, what’s up everyone? My name is Amita Chand. Class of ‘011, woot woot! I’m the photographer and videographer for Monterey Trail’s first online publication, Voices from the Trail. Taking pictures is a great passion of mine. I know there’s not much up, but just wait – I’m totally on it! Outside of school, I am interested in taking pictures of nature, families and children. Besides photography, I’m somewhat of a normal person. (Normal? Me? Hah, not in my vocabulary). About me? I’m CRAZY for acoustic music, and I love Jason Mraz. Friends describe me as very hilarious, sweet, and understanding.
I’m also interested in astrology, and that’s why I write the horoscopes for the publication as well. Even though I do write the horoscopes, that doesn’t mean that people should be limited to what they read. Go above and beyond!
I am very thankful for this publication, which is allowing students to be in touch with the environment of their school campus.
Roma Saeed: Staff Writer
It’s Club Rush Day, and everybody is really excited to start signing up for clubs. During this time, our lunches are pretty hectic; you know how it is – you were there. I promised myself that I wanted to join as many clubs as I could and still be able to mange my time fairly. Of course things didn’t exactly go as planned. I signed up for so many clubs that it’s not even funny – I had no idea what I was thinking. One club meeting that I did bother to show up to, however, was the Literary Publications meeting. To my surprise, it was not half bad; I simply loved my “first day on the job”.
My name is Roma Saeed and I am one of the few freshmen in Literary Publications. I have committed myself to some other clubs around campus, but this is, by far, my favorite. I’d like to think of myself as a staff writer because honestly I can’t stay in one place for too long. I like writing about different things so I don’t miss anything (I like getting the most out of life). I haven’t written many articles yet, but that doesn’t stop me from reaching my goal. Granted, I am not the best writer, but I am hoping Literary Publications will improve that. I want to be able to write about more than just one thing, and not just that, but I want it so that people actually want to read it. I want to write to entertain – no one likes reading something that fails to keep them interested.
I can say with confidence that the “freshmen” are here to stay.
Shelly Kuang: Staff Writer
My name is Shelly Kuang – I am currently a Junior at Monterey Trail High School and a staff writer for the Voices from the Trail online publication. I am basically someone who writes out stories and helps around – if someone needs an additional hand, I’m there to help! I hope to see more people join this club, and I also hope that more supporters from inside the school and out will follow us and turn to our website for interesting, up-to-date news. I want to be able to bring news to the MTHS Mustangs, so that everybody can connect to our school.
Zarnab Saeed: Staff Writer
Hello world. This is Zarnab Saeed. I have about a million and two nicknames, but I can only think of two: Doornob and Zarnebula. I’m a junior at MTHS who has a passion for writing, which led me to become a staff writer at Voices from the Trail. This is my first year in Literary Publications, and it helps me connect to my school. My goal for this year is to write as many articles as I can for each column.
So who really am I? Well, I’d tell you but I’d have to kill you. Muahhahahaha! Just joking. I’m the person who gets very irritating if there is no music in her ears. I’m a person who writes her feelings outs because it creates memories. I’m a person who will argue until the other person gives in. I’m a person who makes your life a living hell if you don’t respect. I’m a person who gets shy very easily yet goes around saying random things. I’m a person who can eat 24/7 and never puke. I think twilight is the most beautiful time of day. If I don’t have my friends around, I literally go crazy. I think pink is the worst color anyone can like, and aqua is more than pretty. I fall down a million and two times a day over my untied converse laces. I’m a dreamer with a hundred and one nightmares. People don’t understand me, but what can I say… I’m the lost child. Yeah, it’s an off day when no one calls me weird or crazy.
Jane Bangura: Fact Checker
My name is Jane Bangura, and I’m a fact checker at Voices from the Trail; it is my job to review what’s been written. I enjoy writing at times, because it’s a good way to express my feelings and thoughts toward things, and I enjoy reading because I learn new words when I read. I would like to make sure that everything we are putting on our page is okay and sounds interesting. I believe that it’s my part to do, and I want to do it well.
Marcos Martinez: Staff Writer
My name is Marcos Martinez, and I am an active Senior who’s in a bunch of clubs, and I’m trying my hardest to enjoy my last year at Monterey Trail High School. I write for the Arts and Entertainment section of Voices from the Trail.
Ashleigh Conway: Staff Writer
My name is Ashleigh Conway, and I am a Junior as of the 09-10 school year. I like to write for the Arts and Entertainment section. I also try to promote the virtual newspaper as much as I can among my friends, so don’t be surprised if it comes up in conversation. What else, what else? I volunteer for the Animal Rescue League, and I would like to post news about upcoming events that they are running when I am able to.
My favorite music is J-rock, including ALI Project, GazettE, and Arashi. My favorite foods are pizza, hot dogs, and cheeseburgers (All-American!). My favorite person in the whole world is my boyfriend, David, and my favorite place to write is Voices from the Trail.
Tawn Saeturn: Staff Writer
My name is Tawn Saeturn – I’m a 12th grader, and I enjoy the Arts and Entertainment section of Voices from the Trail. I like to read, listen to music and many other things. And I’m pretty smart. I mean, Micky Wong is only 100 times smarter than me; pretty amazing if you think about it.
Jesse Uppal: Staff Writer
My name is Jesse Uppal. I am a senior and am working in the arts and entertainment section. I am going to go to a 4 year university and major in computer engineering. I have a great interest in movies and try to watch all the new films that release. It will be my job to post movie reviews for upcoming and new films.
Kim Tran: Staff Writer
My name is Kim Tran, and I’m currently a freshman here at Monterey Trail High School. I’m trying my best to write about all the sports I can for our publication, Voices from the Trail.
Michelle Nguyen: Staff Writer
My name is Michelle Nguyen, and I am a staff writer for Monterey Trail High School’s online news publication, Voices from the Trail. I like to think of myself as being very open-minded, understanding, and helpful. I give out great advice, and I’m a lot of fun.
Dat Phu: Staff Writer
My name is Dat Phu, and I am a Senior at Monterey Trial High School. Although working with this publication was not one of my original goals, I think I’ll get used to the atmosphere. I would like to publish stories on underground rap artists, as well as other articles about music.
