When my Journalism teacher handed me a copy of Justin Bieber’s newest hit song “Baby” (feat. Ludacris) I already knew a good amount about him. I’d heard of him when “One Time” came out; I loved his fresh voice, and his ability to hit those notes! “Baby” didn’t fail to impress – of the 10 posters I was given to distribute, half of them went to the big Bieber fans in my class, and within 10 minutes all the rest of my posters were given to excited fans who were very big on his music. In summary, The Bieb’s song was about him promising his all to a beautiful girl, only to have her throw it back in his face and ignore him – it’s about how he pursues his first love, trying to get her back. It’s a topic many young men can relate to, so he has his young teen male audience, while the girls think he is adorable and his voice is sweet. In his amazing music video for ‘Baby’, the teen heads to the local bowling alley, hoping to see his love, to only find she has rejected him. But it’s OK – in the end, because of his dancing, he wins back her heart! It’s corny, but adorable. Justin’s song would have to be 4 out of 5 in my book. And after interviewing a large sum of Monterey Trail High School students, the average thought it was a 3. Hopefully we will see more from this young, expanding artist.
