Excitement filled the Monterey Trail Gym as our champion MTHS men’s volleyball team warmed up for their game against Whitney high school. The JV men won in 3 games. The team was working well together by picking up any hits from the Whitney Wild Cats and turning them into amazing plays. But it was a serving only game about 95% of the time. Great victory for our mustangs, but just a little boring. When the Varsity men stepped unto the court the true excitement began. The Varsity men won in 3 games. Amazing hits byAshanti Jackson and Steadman Saunders, hits from the Wolves were digged beautifully by Lorenzo Villanueva and Derrick Cuaresma . Killing the hope of the Wild Cats; by the third game Whitney had given up struggling to get simple passes. Whith thie amazing game expect our boys to be at the championships this year!

Come on out to the games and watch them countinue to rock the volleyball court. The next game is April 13th at Folsom High School, and the next home game is April 15th in the MTHS gym, JV starts at 4 and Varsity at 6. Prices for the games are $5.00 for adults and students without ID, $3.00 for students with MTHS and EHMS ID’s, $2.00

October 21st, 2009
Monterey opens the game with the first score, followed by 2 more during the first quarter as they flawlessly advance the ball forward in a series of great teamwork. The Mustangs lead by 3 points by end of first quarter, with their amazing display of passes. Laguna Creek obtain a set of two points, in an effort to tie with Monterey, though the Mustangs hold their ground and lead by achieving two more points for a score of 5-2.

With the start of the third quarter, #3 Jesse Palnikov scores with a great shot straight down into Laguna’s goal. Almost immediately after, #4 Steven Feick follows Jesse for another excellent shot. With Jesse and Steven showing mustang dominance, Josh Baysa keeps up Mustang defense as he provides countless beautiful saves. Mustangs hold the third quarter with 2-8.
Laguna Creek comes out of the fourth strong as they push towards Monterey’s goal, despite the strong defense, and manage to pick one off. The Mustangs recover the ball, and stride it in for another point, re-widening the gap. Laguna Creek, however, forces in three more shots. The Mustangs skill and strength holds their lead, as the fourth quarter and game ends at 6-9.
